Overview

QuickBooks Online by Intuit is a cloud accounting platform offering invoicing, expense tracking, VAT returns, and bank feeds from AIB, Bank of Ireland, and Permanent TSB for Irish businesses. Known for its intuitive interface and strong mobile app, it is a popular choice among Irish startups and sole traders who want to manage finances on the go. QuickBooks handles Revenue-compliant VAT returns and supports SEPA payments, though it lacks native Irish payroll and does not have PAYE Modernisation built in. Irish businesses should note that Intuit is a US-based parent company, so GDPR-conscious firms may want to confirm EU data processing is enabled on their account.

Editor's verdict: Caveat

Editor's verdict on QuickBooks Online

stamped 2026-06-08

QuickBooks Online is the most affordable cloud accounting platform with proper Irish VAT support, making it a reasonable choice for cost-sensitive Irish businesses. The mobile app is the strongest of any Irish cloud accounting tool, and bank feeds work well. The significant caveat for Irish businesses is US data residency - customer and financial data is stored in US data centres, which creates GDPR data transfer obligations. If data residency matters to your business or clients, choose an EU-hosted alternative (Xero, Big Red Cloud, BrightBooks). If it doesn't, QuickBooks is a solid product at a fair price.
