QuickBooks Ireland Review 2026 - Pricing, VAT, Bank Feeds, and GDPR
QuickBooks Online is affordable and has a great mobile app. But for Irish businesses, the US data residency issue is a genuine GDPR consideration. Here's the full picture.
QuickBooks Online is Intuit’s cloud accounting platform, and it has been building Irish market share steadily since Intuit localised it for Irish VAT and Revenue requirements. For cost-sensitive Irish businesses - particularly sole traders, startups, and small service firms - it offers a capable set of features at a competitive price point.
The main caveat for Irish businesses is data residency. Intuit is a US company, and QuickBooks Online processes financial data in US data centres by default. For businesses operating under GDPR, this requires careful consideration.
This review covers pricing, features, bank feeds, and where QuickBooks sits in the Irish market.
QuickBooks Online Plans in Ireland
QuickBooks Online is available in Ireland through Intuit’s Irish site (quickbooks.intuit.com/ie). Pricing is typically displayed in euro, though billing may vary by promotional offer.
| Plan | Approximate Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Start | ~€35/month | Sole traders, single user |
| Essentials | ~€50/month | Small teams, bill management |
| Plus | ~€70/month | Project tracking, inventory |
| Advanced | ~€90/month | Larger SMEs, custom reporting |
Pricing changes frequently and Intuit runs extended introductory discount periods for new subscribers. Check the current rate at intuit.com/ie - the figures above are approximate for 2026.
A 30-day free trial is available on all plans. There is no permanently free tier.
Key Features for Irish Businesses
VAT and Revenue Integration
QuickBooks Ireland supports VAT3 filing directly to Revenue Online Service. Setup involves:
- Entering your VAT registration number in company settings
- Setting your filing frequency (bi-monthly for most Irish businesses)
- Linking your ROS digital certificate or agent credentials
Once configured, QuickBooks calculates your T1 and T2 figures automatically and allows direct submission to ROS from within the platform. All standard Irish VAT rates are supported - 23%, 13.5%, 9%, and 0%.
QuickBooks also supports postponed accounting for imports from Great Britain - essential for businesses that source goods from GB post-Brexit.
What it doesn’t support: Corporation Tax (CT1) or Income Tax (Form 11) filing via ROS. These require a separate tool or manual ROS submission.
Bank Feeds
QuickBooks Ireland supports bank feeds from:
- AIB - full transaction feed
- Bank of Ireland - full transaction feed
- Permanent TSB - supported
- Revolut Business - via Revolut’s direct QuickBooks integration
The bank feed coverage is solid, though Xero has a marginal edge on the depth of its Revolut and PTSB integrations. For the two dominant Irish SME banks (AIB and BOI), QuickBooks performs well.
Mobile App
The QuickBooks mobile app for iOS and Android is widely regarded as the best in the accounting software category. Features include:
- Full invoice creation and sending
- Receipt capture via camera
- Mileage tracking (GPS-assisted)
- Expense categorisation on the go
- Bank reconciliation from mobile
For sole traders and business owners who are on the road - tradespeople, consultants, sales reps - the mobile app’s strength is a genuine differentiator. Xero’s mobile app is functional but lags behind on mileage tracking and receipt workflows.
Reporting
QuickBooks has strong management reporting, including:
- Profit and Loss (with date comparison)
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow Statement
- Aged Debtors and Creditors
- VAT Liability report
The Plus and Advanced plans add project profitability reporting and budget vs. actual comparisons - useful for service businesses that want to track job-level margins.
No Built-in Irish Payroll
Like Xero, QuickBooks Online Ireland does not include Irish payroll. Intuit’s QuickBooks Payroll product is not available in the Irish market. Irish businesses need a separate payroll tool for PAYE Modernisation compliance:
- BrightPay - most widely used in Ireland, connects to QuickBooks via journal
- Collsoft - solid alternative
- Thesaurus Payroll Manager - also exports to QuickBooks
The GDPR Data Residency Issue
This is the most important Irish-specific consideration for QuickBooks, and the one most review sites ignore.
Intuit is a US company. By default, QuickBooks Online processes and stores financial data in US data centres. Financial data for Irish businesses - including customer names, contact details, transaction records, and bank information - may be transferred to and stored in the United States.
Under GDPR, transfers of personal data to the US require an appropriate safeguard (such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses). Intuit does offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) and operates under SCCs for EU customers. However:
- You need to actively request and sign the DPA with Intuit
- US data processing frameworks don’t provide the same level of protection as EU hosting
- For accountants handling client data or businesses in regulated sectors, EU data residency may be required
If GDPR data residency is a hard requirement for your business, choose a platform with EU-native hosting: Xero (EU data centres available), Sage (EU hosting), or an Irish-built platform like Big Red Cloud or Surf Accounts.
If GDPR data residency is not a hard requirement - which is true for many small Irish businesses - QuickBooks is a capable product and the data residency concern is manageable with the right DPA in place.
QuickBooks vs Xero Ireland
| QuickBooks | Xero | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting Price | ~€35/month | ~$29/month (USD) |
| Mobile App | Best-in-class | Good |
| Bank Feeds | AIB, BOI, PTSB, Revolut | AIB, BOI, PTSB, Revolut |
| GDPR Data Residency | US (with DPA available) | EU |
| ROS VAT3 Filing | Yes | Yes |
| Built-in Payroll | No | No |
| Irish Accountant Adoption | Growing | Strong |
| App Marketplace | Good | Extensive (1,000+) |
For most Irish businesses the products are comparable. Xero has better Irish accountant adoption and cleaner EU data residency. QuickBooks has a better mobile experience and may suit businesses that aren’t tied to a specific accountant’s preferred platform.

QuickBooks vs Sage Ireland
Sage is the better choice if you need built-in payroll, RCT support for construction, or Corporation Tax filing via ROS. QuickBooks is a cleaner, more modern interface at a lower entry price for businesses that don’t need those features.

Verdict
QuickBooks Online is a solid accounting choice for Irish sole traders, startups, and small service businesses that want clean invoicing, good mobile capabilities, and straightforward VAT return filing. The mobile app is the best in the category.
The data residency question is real. If your business handles personal data of clients or employees and you want that data to stay in the EU, Xero or an Irish-built alternative is the safer choice.
Best for: Sole traders, early-stage startups, and mobile-first businesses that want the best accounting mobile app and aren’t constrained by EU data residency requirements.
Not the right fit for: GDPR-sensitive businesses, construction companies, firms needing built-in payroll, or businesses whose accountant prefers Xero or Sage.
