EORI Number Checker

Check whether an EORI number is valid and registered for EU customs, straight from the European Commission's own validation service. Useful before you move goods with a new supplier or customer outside Ireland.

An Irish EORI number starts with IE followed by your VAT number. Try , .

What this checks

Every business moving goods across the EU's external customs border needs an EORI number, issued by a customs authority and shared across the whole EU once granted. This tool sends your query to the European Commission's own EORI validation service in real time and shows you exactly what it returns - nothing is estimated and nothing is cached.

For Irish businesses the most common use is confirming a new supplier or customer outside Ireland is genuinely EORI-registered before you ship goods, so customs clearance does not stall at the border. You can also check VAT registration status for the same trader.

Source and privacy

Data comes directly from the European Commission's EORI validation service (ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/eos). We do not log or store the EORI numbers you check. Questions

What is an EORI number?

An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is the unique identifier customs authorities use to track and process shipments moving into or out of the EU. Any Irish business that imports or exports goods with a non-EU country needs one - without it, Revenue and other customs authorities cannot clear your shipment.

Who needs an EORI number in Ireland?

Any VAT-registered or non-VAT-registered business or individual moving goods between Ireland and a country outside the EU customs union - including Great Britain since Brexit - needs an EORI number. You apply through Revenue's ROS or myAccount service; it is free and usually issued within a few working days.

How does an Irish EORI number relate to my VAT number?

An Irish EORI number is built from your Irish VAT number, prefixed with "IE": for example VAT number 6388047V becomes EORI number IE6388047V. If your VAT number changes or you are not VAT-registered, Revenue issues an EORI number in a related but distinct format. Check the number is registered here rather than assuming the VAT-to-EORI pattern always applies.

Why does a valid EORI number sometimes show no name or address?

The European Commission only publishes a trader's name and address on the validation service where the trader has explicitly consented. A number can be fully valid with nothing published - this tool always shows the correct valid/not valid status regardless, and explains when details are withheld rather than treating it as a failed lookup.

Does this check UK (GB) EORI numbers?

No. A GB EORI number is issued by HMRC, a different customs authority outside the EU's validation service this tool queries. If you enter a GB-prefixed number, the tool tells you to use HMRC's own checker rather than guessing at a result.

Is this free and does it store the numbers I check?

Yes, it is free with no signup, and queries the official EU validation service directly. We do not store the EORI numbers you check.
