NACE codes are collected by the Companies Registration Office (CRO) on incorporation, by Revenue on tax registration (TR1/TR2 forms), and used by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for sector reports. Many Irish grants and supports are NACE-eligibility-gated: Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Offices, IDA Ireland, Digital Transformation Grants and others define eligibility by NACE division or class. For the definition and background, see the NACE code glossary entry .

Questions

What is a NACE code?

NACE is the EU standard classification of economic activities. Every Irish business has a primary NACE code identifying its sector. The current version is NACE Rev. 2.1, which applies to statistics from reference year 2025 onward. For the definition and background, see the NACE code glossary entry.

Where do I use my NACE code in Ireland?

NACE codes are collected by the Companies Registration Office (CRO) on incorporation, by Revenue on tax registration (TR1/TR2 forms), and used by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for sector reports. Many Irish grants and supports are NACE-eligibility-gated: Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Offices, IDA Ireland, Digital Transformation Grants and others define eligibility by NACE division or class.

How do I find my NACE code?

Search by the description of your main business activity above (e.g. "software development", "restaurant", "construction"). You can also browse by section. If you are not certain, Revenue and the CRO can advise on the correct class for your activity.

What changed in NACE Rev. 2.1?

NACE Rev. 2.1 restructured the classification to cover activities that had grown since Rev. 2.0, including digital and platform-economy work. It is structured into 22 sections (A-V), compared to 21 (A-U) in Rev. 2.0. New statistics reference NACE Rev. 2.1 from 2025 onward, though many Irish systems still reference Rev. 2.0 codes for historical records.

Is 56.10 (Restaurants) still in NACE Rev. 2.1?

No. In NACE Rev. 2.1 the former class 56.10 was restructured into 56.11 (Restaurant activities) and 56.12 (Mobile food service activities). If your CRO registration or Revenue record shows 56.10, that is the Rev. 2.0 code and remains valid for historical purposes.
